This book is well written and describes a time that as a history buff I was unaware of except in passing memoirs. The details described by the author of the working with the Somali he people was exciting to read. I recommend this book for anyone interested in the horn of Africa and the history there.
Fabulous memoir from an old campaigner in northern Somalia and Oman. Insightful detail of the time, geography and people in those places. Would love to see a memoir from Col. Ray's time in Northern Ireland!
DANGEROUS FRONTIERS: Campaigning in Somaliland and OmanExcellent memoir by a British Officer whose exploits put Indiana Jones to shame. Leading indigenous troops in some of the most dangerous and difficult countries in the world, this volume was hard to put down. This book should be a must read for military and technical advisors who will be posted to the Horn of Africa and Arabian peninsula, or to Southwest Asia in general. Historical pictures are a great help, although I wished there had been more of them.
