Overall, this is a beautiful calendar, with gorgeous artwork throughout. It's printed on very nice, thick paper, and the cover is very solid and secure. However, I'm deducting one star for the binding. While the binding isn't really a bad thing, it's something that I personally do not like. I missed the description (and it is not depicted in the photographs of the item) that it is a "concealed" spiral binding. I love spiral bound calendars for my desk because I flip them around so that it's only as wide as a closed book (you would only see the right-hand-side of the double-page spread when you're looking at it on my desk). That gives it a smaller footprint so that it takes up less space on my desk. However, with the concealed spiral, you can't fold it over. It lays flat and open, which is nice, but you can't fold it completely over without tearing off or severely damaging the cover of the spiral binding. If you close it properly and set it on a bookcase, it looks like the end of a book, no spiral binding visible. It's just a preference, but I probably would not have purchased this particular calendar if I had realized I couldn't fold it over to reduce the footprint on my desk. If you don't care about folding it in half, you will probably LOVE this calendar. I'm not unhappy with the purchase, just with the space it's going to take up this year. :)

The calendar is absolutely beautiful, beautiful art. I like that every page has a different art image, the pockets in the front and back are very useful to store loose papers or receipts. There is plenty of space in the back for notes, 3 pages that can be used front and back. I only give it 4 starts because I can’t completely fold it, it can only open flat. I would recommend this product.

I keep a daily/monthly calendar. I need to write in it. This calendar is soooo pretty! I love looking at it. I love the way the days and months are laid out in this one too! It has a hardcover book style too it so it's really nice looking. I can't wait to get next years calendar!

This is my favorite planner of all time! The left side has a gorgeous full size image (look for the tiny easter eggs hidden throughout!) and the right Monday through Friday displayed along with the month and date. If you like to write with gel/ink pens this might not be the agenda for you, but other than that it is absolutely perfect! This would make a lovely gift for anyone on your list.

Absolutely beautiful artwork that can be reused later as decorations in frames etc. Well organized day blocks with plenty of room to write appointments and information. The full month calendars in the beginning are also helpful. Nice spiral bound edge that is easy to lay open flat on a desk.

Beautiful pictures! Plenty of room for my needs. The negative for this is that when you write it goes through to the next page almost like duplicate pages. :(

Five years ago Jane Stern was a walking encyclopedia of panic attacks, depression, and hypochondria. A short time later the color had returned to his cheeks, the boy was laughing again with his friends, and Jane realized that this one small act of kindness--helping another person who was suffering--had provided her with comfort and a sense of well-being. It was shortly thereafter that this fifty-two-year-old writer decided to become an emergency medical technician, eventually coming to be known as Ambulance Girl. Stern tells her story with great humor and poignancy, creating a wonderful portrait of a middle-aged, Woody Allen-ish woman who was "deeply and neurotically terrified of sick and dead people," but who went out into the world to save other people's lives as a way of saving her own. Her story begins with the boot camp of EMT training: 140 hours at the hands of a dour ex-marine who took delight inpresenting a veritable parade of amputations, hideous deformities, and gross disasters. Jane--overweight and badly out of shape--had to surmount physical challenges like carrying a 250-pound man seated in a chair down a dark flight of stairs. After class she did rounds in the emergency room of a local hospital, where she attended to a schizophrenic kickboxer who had tried to kill his mother that morning and a stockbroker who was taken off the commuter train to Manhattan with delirium tremens so bad it killed him. Each call Stern describes is a vignette of human nature, often with a life in the balance. From an AIDS hospice to town drunks, yuppie wife beaters to psychopaths, Jane comes to see the true nature and underlying mysteries of a town she had called home for twenty years. Throughout the book we follow her as she gets her sea legs and finally bonds with the burly, handsome firefighters who become her colleagues. At the end, she is named the first woman officer of the department--a triumph we joyously share with her. This is a great book for anyone who is far too young to sit in a rocking chair all day, but at the age where finally realizing dreams of being a super model probably aren't happening either.Jane Stern found a great way to get her groove back!!I discovered this book accidentally while searching online to see if other women in their 40s feel invisible when kids leave the nest (especially stay at home moms). Many of us seem to feel lost and "fired from our jobs" as our children become independent. This wasn't exactly the situation with author but I related to her place in life.

Just finished reading this. I had read and loved Roadfood: The Coast-to-Coast Guide to 900 of the Best Barbecue Joints, Lobster Shacks, Ice Cream Parlors, Highway Diners, and Much, Much More, now in its 9th edition and Square Meals, and was a bit startled to recognize Jane Stern's name appearing as the author of a book on a very different subject. It was a little sad to read about how messed-up her early life had been, and how the apparently hereditary craziness of her side of the family nearly overtook her and nearly destroyed her marriage. But then, plunging herself into learning to deal with medical-emergency stuff which had always grossed her out, not only allowed her to help other people -- it got her mind redirected from depression, and becoming a more pleasant person to be around doubtless helped improve her marriage. As a 50-something out-of-shape gal myself, I could totally empathise with Jane's concerns about being physically able to do some of the more strenuous tasks expected of an EMT. A fascinating read, which went more quickly than I had expected.

I purchased this book as a "bargain book" for a couple bucks. My experience with bargain books has been that about 90 percent of them are poorly written and barely worth what you pay for them. This book was definitely the exception! The author writes with humor about her lifelong battle with anxiety. I felt her pain, but also laughed out loud. As a middle age woman, she becomes determined to do something that is way outside of her comfort zone - become an EMT. She is very transparent about her neuroses, her appointments with her psychiatrist, her inner demons. Everything is hard for her, as she'd really prefer not to leave her house, but she goes after her goal with great determination and succeeds! I found her inspiring and feel the book has great appeal for a wide cross-section of people: middle age women, EMTs (or anyone considering it), anxiety sufferers, or anyone seeking a little inspiration to get out of their comfort zone.I hope the author writes a sequel. I would definitely purchase it, even if I had to pay full price!

What an interesting book! Jane writes with honesty & wit. It was especially enjoyable to read because I live in Connecticut & am familiar with Georgetown, Redding, etc. I can honestly say I now have even greater respect for the men & women who volunteer to provide medical services to their neighbors (& for the paid professionals too). This responsibility is definitely not something for the faint of heart to take on. Thank heaven we have so many dedicated people to respond to our emergency calls. You guys & gals rock! :)

I love a good story and good writing. That should be enough to recommend this. Add to the mix an honest telling of a life changing period of a woman's journey from isolated and invisible to courageous and part of her community and I'm very interested-but she had me sold with firemen, fire trucks, and fire houses. I'm the mom who regularly took my boys and girl to the most fun and shiny place in town-our local fire station.Jane Stern reminds me of all the reasons there is mystery and myth around the heroic lives surrounding us everyday. She took me on her healing journey of step by step moving from comfortable dysfunction to a new story and I liked the ride.

I LOVED this book. I'm not much of a reader... other than gossip magazines, if that counts. I may have read one whole book in the last 10 years. But I tore through this book cover to cover and was truly sad when I was done.

I bought this book partly because it takes place in a town near mine in CT, and I wondered what the life of an EMT might be like. It's more than that, however. Becoming an EMT is the author's way of fighting depression and her various fears. It's a quick read and the energy doesn't flag. I did learn one important thing. I'm glad I don't have to be an EMT

I found Ambulance Girl to be enjoyable, believable, and a good read. Since I am a nurse, it was interesting to hear the side of the EMTs. And since I am a writer and a long-time reader, I found her observations interesting. She is not a perfect person--who is?--and she certainly had definite opinions. But her story is believable and down to earth. She admits her quirkiness and then tries to deal with it. Since it's been a while since she wrote the book, I wonder if she is still on her EMT team.

the story feels so rushed and underdeveloped that it just doesn't fit with the rest of the series. the other books were perfectly paced, where focus was drawn to where it was needed,and then flowed so nothing felt slow or repetitive. we still got a great look at the characters, and their world. but this book has the highest stakes in the series, but passes over them so quickly that you can't appreciate it or care about the characters. i was more invested in fight demonstration with eight year olds than the battle for the fate of the world. it needs an extra hundred pages to live up to the potential of this series

A good follow-up within the Cradle series but not necessarily a great follow-up. This is a book that is tasked with the set-up of the rest of Will Wight's story imo. As a result, it feels almost like half a book. Don't get me wrong, it's still entertaining and I have no regrets about purchasing it as soon as it was out.A lot of incidents occur in this book and they seemed rushed. Lindon's development seems halted (even though his growth will be picked up in the following books) while Yerin continues to be awesome as usual (but isn't fleshed out as well int his book as with the previous books). I think Will Wight could have gotten away with another 50 or so pages to tell the same story but giving it a little more time to develop while allowing himself more space/time to flesh everything out.All in all, I'd say this was the weakest book in the series so far but that won't stop me from buying the next as soon as it's out. I appreciate what the author is doing. It's not easy being a fan and waiting years for the followup book in a series and the author understands this based on the fact that Will has managed about 2 or so books in this series every year. I appreciate that and look forward to continuing this journey with Lindon and the rest of the team. I hope the coming books as just as good if not better than the first 3. I re-read those recently and am still amazed by them (the second book in the series is probably my favorite).Thank you Will for bringing us along on this journey :-D

Frankly, this book should either have been twice as long, or split into two books. There is way too much going on, and almost no time is devoted to developing out the story as we are rushed to the finish line. The author tries to cram what amounts to two seperate stories into less than 300 pages, and the quality drops as much as one would expect given this.The fight sequence between Jai Long and Lindon which was meticulously built up is wasted, being both utterly confusing, and completely anticlimactic. This is definitely a theme, as the book piles more on us without really explaining what the hell is going on, keeping a fast, confusing pace.What we end with is a book that was awkwardly realized, and leaves the reader wondering what the hell just happened.

This book is the low point in the series so far; it isn’t bad, but is not as good as the others. The plot is a bit underdeveloped and doesn't quite fit with the previous books. Like some others reviewers have said, it has a lot of setting up the next books, and this one suffers because of it. I really like Yerin, but some of her choices are a bit questionable and the resolution of her conflict is a bit fast. And Lindon is looking more and more like a puppet of others, he doesn’t decide much himself and others are always telling him what to do.

First off this is a great series, my favorite among self-published authors on amazon. I have to agree with other reviews that this is the weakest of the series, however it still warrants a 5-star review. The 2nd and 3rd book move forward at such a breakneck pace that some seem to have forgotten that Lindon does not progress at all in the first book. This book lacks the physical progression that Lindon made during the last two books, but instead focuses on his progression mentally. He does have a major breakthrough as he realizes how far he still has to go and reaffirms his commitment to progression. I see this book as setting the stage for his next big breakthroughs. Can't wait to read book five and see what happens next. Keep it up Will!

Let my start by saying I love this series. One of the things I have consistently liked about it is the steady progression Lindon makes in progressing his power. The work he puts in is felt by the reader and at the end of Blackflame I was looking forward to seeing how Lindon would continue to push in order to surprise Jai Long at the duel. I was disappointed that this book does not have any of this. It practically skips the remaining time between the end of Blackflame and the beginning of the duel.I enjoyed reading through the story and it certainly packs a lot of action, but I feel like the times of reflection that helped the pacing for the previous story were largely missing.This book focuses on action and a crisis, and while these are probably necessary to the plot, it was a whole lot all at once without much space for the reader to absorb it. Considering that it's only been about 5 months since the last book released I can't really fault the story for feeling short, but as a standalone novel this feels short. One of the things I've always liked about Will's writing is that he doesn't bog down his story with unnecessary details, his descriptions convey enough to be interesting but don't wallow in the setting to the point that I'm bored. It feels like he gave the plot this same treatment and I don't think it works as well on the plot as it does on his scenes.What I've said is mostly negative but I largely enjoyed the book, those were my biggest complaints. At the end of the day if you've read through the series up to this point you should definitely buy the book, but be prepared going in for it to feel shorter than the previous installment.

They will hold the attention of the little ones when you are reading it.One thing in addition to the text itself is the element of nature which abounds. A blossoming Dogwood tree, purple lilac, and a cranberry bog are shown in the text. There is also a garter snake, wood turtle, a Spadefoot Toad, and a Whippoorwill.. All of these are most educational for the kids and the parents can explain them as they read the book.The author has also included 3 real pictures hidden in the book which the young ones can search for when done reading. The answers are at the end. If one wants to sing along, there are also words to sing along to!Written for ages 3 - 6 and P - 3.Most highly recommended.

Lovely spring time read for little ones!
