About the Author
Joel Chandler Harris (1848-1908) collected the folktales of Southern African Americans and retold them as classic stories of Uncle Remus, a fictitious old slave who spun stories to a boy from “the big house of a plantation.” He wrote five books featuring Uncle Remus and his stories of Brer Rabbit and friends. When my husband and I were discussing books to get before our son was born, he said we needed to have this book as he remembers his father reading the stories to him as a child. I ordered it as part of our "25 Days of Books" Christmas tradition. It was the first book we opened and my husband loved sharing the stories with our son. The book arrived in perfect quality. I love the style of writing an the pictures as well.
I don't recall of reading any other Brer Rabbit stories before, although I definitely recall hearing 'em told. My m-in-l was from rural Louisiana and was born near the turn of the century (abt. 1902). She used to tell some of the Brer Rabbit stories, but they were told in the "old style" from her birth area. I do like this book, both the writing and the art ... and would be interested in looking at more some time.
beautiful quality. i love the stories, but the art makes it even better. nice little stories to read out loud. i don't have any kids but i read them to my mom haha.
We love these stories and the illustrations are fun. My criticism is of the editing of this version. Found a lot of errors.

Love these stories! It is great to see an updated version. The illustrations are beautiful, and my kids (6, 4 and 2 1/2) love reading about the crazy antics of Brer Rabbit. We have read and re-read this many times. I only wish there were more stories.
Love the illustrations and retelling of these stories. I just wish the editor had caught more typos and misspelled words. I've found at least 5 in a 40 page book.
