Being the first to review a book is always difficult. I will say I hate buying one without reviews, so here goes: Fun omnisexual earth woman wakes up after her ship ends up far from its expected space path and long after she was suppose to wake. She is surrounded by interesting aliens, and must learn to navigate around her new 'universe'. I quite recommend this mostly fun twist on the man out of time trope of science fiction. I look forward to reading more from this author.
I liked the pace of the story and the way the characters were introduced into the mix, theirs is a love hate relationship which seems to be working to form a good crew. Each individual is made up of different alien life forms who, despite their differences in appearance and biology, start to care for one another and have some funny moments in their interactions. It will be nice learning more about them and joining in their adventures just to see how much more mischief they can get into.
this story has some very interesting areas in it but it felt incomplete and cut apart. the characters were interresting but not much growth or depth. i really enjoyed what happened at the end of the story but really felt she should have stayed and lived with "them" and a story continue from there.
As good setup to a series. As far as story goes it spent most of its length introducing characters. Still, pretty good
The author was using a mix of both present and past tense which made reading it difficult. Hopefully an edited version comes out soon so I can give this another try. I admit I did not make it past the first chapter.
A lively, pulp-adventure science-fiction series that hits the ground running with little overhead. The first 5 chapters of Endling set up a future galactic civilization with light brushstrokes, focusing on the interactions of Asha Reed, a woman-out-of-time whose colony ship failed and left her in cryo-freeze for wayyy too long, with a few colorful aliens, who are shoestring-budget cargo haulers. Galactic saviors these are not. Asha's now has to figure out what the heck happened to Earth--and all the humans--while surviving in this weird new alien civilization. Chapters 1-5 do a fine job juggling what is ostensibly the character setup that most sci-fi productions linger over while trying to drown the audience in a deluge of sci-fi politics, jargon, and unnecessary filler. Endling manages to drip-feed the nuts-and-bolts of this complex society while keeping the spotlight on the characters as they appear and are recruited to the crew, getting wrapped up in a few tense and occasionally life-threatening situations on the way there. A fine first outing with nowhere to go but up.
I actually really, really enjoyed this! It has a varied cast, it's funny, intriguing, and full of adventure. I really hope she keeps writing more since it's not super long but that's the closest thing I have to a complaint!
